Posted on Wed, 5 Apr 2017
Question: Hi,
I have developed ring worms ( 4) on my right butt.
I have been applying Ring Guard cream for the past 25 days. While the pain has reduced & the redness has also decreased, however the rashes are still clearly visible. The skin in that area has become thick and the entire area is very itchy.
1. Please suggest an antibiotic for complete healing.
2. Also please help me know why these have emerged as till now , I have never suffered from any fungal infection. So would like to know the cause of this please.

Brief Answer:
Please see the dermatologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

Ringworm infections can occur due to several reasons:
1.Poor genital hygiene. Improper cleaning, use of tight undergarments, lack of ventilation etc. can predispose to the infection.

2.Spread from sources. This can happen through sexual intercourse with an infected partner, from clothes which are contaminated with the fungus, either by sharing usables or keeping in contact with infected persons.

3.Lowered immunity can predispose to the infection. This can happen during pregnancy and with some general infections. Diabetes can also lower immunity.

Please see the dermatologist for proper clinical evaluation and plan further management. Do not worry, the condition is well treatable with good medication and care. Proper ventilation, adequate rest, abstinence until healing is complete, washing your clothes seperately and treatment of your partner if needed are some of the precautions. Please do not self medicate.

Hope I have clarified your query. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
