Suggest Treatment For Ringworm Lump On Back Of The Scalp
Question: My daughter has a ringworm lump on the back of her scalp. The lump is the size of maybe a quarter & It's raised, flaky, some pus discharge, redish, itchy & painful to the touch. She's been seen by a dermatologist and she's been seen by her pediatrician, she's had blood work tested, It came back normal, no issues with thyroid issues which was a concern initially that it could be a form of allopecia; she's been taking clotrimazole morning & night & will start an oral antifungal tablet in the next 48 hours. That said, anything that we can do for the pain and suffering portion of this condition? She's 5 years old and we feel helpless as parents. Thanks in advance for your review & advice regarding the ringworm lump & possible treatment suggestions.,

Your child seems to have developed tinea capitis which is a fungal infection of the hair which occurs mostly in young children .
The most important part of its treatment is the intake of oral antifungals which your child will start taking in few days.
For the associated pain, you can give a simple painkiller like paracetamol in the right dose which is deterimined by her weight.
Maintain proper hygiene of the surrounding hair also.
Avoid use of hair oil. Wash the hair properly.
This problem might take atleast three to six weeks to completely heal although the pain and swelling will decrease in a few days only with proper treatment .
