Question: I have ringworm of the body in my feet and some parts of arms. I work for the post office as a carrier. The truck can get very hot and humid. I am using a topical prescription right now. I was wondering if treatment will still be effective if I continue to work in these environment, or should I not work until treatment has rid my body of ringworm

Brief Answer:
Ideally combining oral antifungals with topical t/t would be more effective

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

Heat, sweating and humidity are factors that are conducive to fungal growth therefore it is not uncommon to have only a partial relief on topical antifungal treatment alone and a relapse of skin condition as soon as patient finishes topical treatment.

Recurrence of fungal infection is another common problem if conditions conducive for fungal growth tend to persist.

Of course if you can take a break from work that would would definitely work in your favor. In my view what would work even better is also adding an Oral antifungal to topical treatment e.g either terbinafine or fluconazole or itraconazole can be combined with topical antifungals when treating extensive/ widespread tinea to have best chance of a complete cure of infection and reduce chances of relapse.
