Question: My blood pressure has been high for a week now, it is 190 over 97 just and hour ago. I have been on lisiniprol and toprol and it does not seem to be doing anything to bring down my blood pressure. I called my cardiologist and said that no one will take me in over night just for hypertension.
Brief Answer:
Get an appointment with your cardiologist!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear of this rising blood pressure.Though the number is high, no doctor would really want you to come to the emergency room for a value of 190/97mmHg unless there are some warning signs or red flags signaling danger that you have not mentioned. If it is all about the numbers, please get an appointment and meet with your doctor for treatment evaluation and possible adjustments.
Some causes of poorly controlled blood pressure could be a poorly managed pain. after the back surgery, have you had any difficulties with pain management? If that is true then it may be the reason why your drugs have not seem to work as good as they used to do before.
If there is no such reason, take many values in a day for like 3days before you meet with your cardiologist so that he can review the numbers with you and see what the best course of action would be for you to get the blood pressure well controlled. A single number would not be as informative as a series of measurements over a couple of days to make real treatment decisions.
I understand your concerns having to sit at home with a higher than normal blood pressure but for now there is no danger and i do nor anticipate any before you get the chance to be evaluated by your cardiologist. Be calm and relaxed because further worries only make the blood pressure to go higher and not help with the problem.
I hope this addresses your query fully and you find it helpful. Feel free to request for more information pr clarification if need be. I wish you well and thank you for using our services.
