Question: Hi, I am a returning missionary coming back home from Chile. I was receiving treatment for Rosacea acne on my forehead and a little on my cheeks. The treatment was a low grade antibiotic Tetrasal. I ran out of Tetrasal three months ago. The acne has returned. I can't get in to see a dermatologist and have interviews next week. I don't want to go into these interviews with this acne on my forehead. Can you suggest another treatment quickly or let me know how to get a refill? thanks

Brief Answer:
We can't prescribe, but here are some suggestions for getting it filled.

Detailed Answer:
I am sorry for this difficulty. It would probably be best for you to continue on your current medication as you know that one works. So here are some ideas you can try for getting a refill:

1. I see that you have been away for awhile in Chile. Did you have a dermatologist in the US, but just can't get in to see him/her quickly? In that case you can call and ask to speak with his nurse and tell her the situation - ask for a refill.

2. If you have a primary care doctor you can ask him or her for a refill just until you get in to see the dermatologist. They will usually do that.

3. If neither of these apply, go to an urgent care/immediate care clinic and when seen by the doctor there, tell them the situation and specifically the medicine and dosage that worked for you.

Avoid alcohol (especially red wine), spicy foods, chocolate, citrus fruits and tomatoes, smoking, and hot foods. These can cause flushing and increase rosacea symptoms. But if you have had rosacea a long time, you probably already know what things trigger it for you.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
