Dear Ms XXXXXXX
Its quite common to see children around age of 4 years with salt craving.
Salt craving could be because of many reasons
1. Habitual salt cravers
2. Salt loosing nephropathy
3. Adrenal insufficiency
If the growth is normal, no urinary complaints, no muscle weakness then its likely to be habitual salt craver. The requirement of salt in a child is only 1-2 gms per day in a 4 year old child. So its likely that his requirements will be fulfilled from the diet he would be normally taking
In my clinical practice i encounter many such cases, as a routine i get the following investigations done
1. Serum Electrolytes: Serum Sodium, Serum potassium, chloride, bicarbonate
2. Urine electrolytes including specific gravity
If the report are normal there is no cause for concern.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
Take Care
