Suggest Treatment For Sciatica Pain
Question: My question is what, if anything can be done to releave pain from sciatica?
I have been given Ibupropen 400 mg. while it has reduced some of the pain, taking it 3 or 4 times a day has, I believe caused colitis. I am 77 years old but doing very well aside from the sciatica & two falls last year which were causing pain but I have been able for the most part to Deal with it.
Any suggestion for the sciatica?

Brief Answer:
Pregabalin.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Any neuropathic pain is very resistant to treatment and taking Pain killers like Ibuprofen is not at all a treatment of choice except for acute pain.
I would recommend following for relief from Sciatica pain:
1. SSRI like Duloxetine which provides a wonderful relief with in 4-6 weeks of therapy.
2. Pregabalin provides relief from the very first day and is a safe way to combat pain in long term.
3. Local application of Diclofenac gel.
4. Tramadol in case of severe pain.
This treatment has very good results so discuss with your doctor about this treatment option.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
