Question: i have a serious migraine. Its been 2 days and my head keeps throbbing. Im unable to sleep and feel really irritated. I have used advil and its not helping at all. I have also tried Cyproheptadine and that is not helping either. The pain is unbearable. What do you think is going on? What meds should I looking into? do i need to attend the hospital? what should I tell my GP?

Brief Answer:
Sorting out migraine

Detailed Answer:
Hi! How long have you been suffering from migraine ? Have you been taking preventive treatment for migraine attacks? Have you tried any drugs in the past that helped overcome the headache? Did you ever have such a severe attack in the past? For the current episode of headache you've tried Advil and Cyproheptadine with no effect. There are several over the counter medicines available (but you've to realise that migraine is a tricky disease - not all the medicines work all the time equally effectively). Here's a list - Excedrin Migraine, Aleve, Actron and Relafen.
However considering that you've been having this rather prolonged ,severe attack I'd advise you to go the nearest ER (emergency room) for relief rather than trying out any of these. Also if you've frequent attacks (more than twice per month) or if the attacks are prolonged(duration more than 24 hrs). I'd recommend you talk to your doctor (GP) about preventive therapy.

Any further questions are welcome. All the best!
