Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Cramps And Pain

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Sep 2015
Question: I have been having abdominal cramps/pain for about 10 days. I have tried Metamucil,IBS OTC, water, Dulcolax and it doesn't seem to help. I do have diverticulosis as diagnosed in a colonoscopy 5 years ago. My stool is sporadic and snakelike or floating but not much is coming out. The cramps seem to be the worst just before waking up in the morning.

Brief Answer:
Clinical evaluation and investigations needed for diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and noted that you have abdominal cramps/pain for the last 10 days but not responding to to the medications you have tried.
There is history of diverticulosis. Stool is sporadic, snakelike and floating. Cramps seem to be worst just before waking up in the morning.

It looks from your history that you are suffering from colitis and need proper investigations to get a proper diagnosis and treatment according to the actual cause.

Please DO NOT take Dulcolax as it irritates the bowel and should never be taken in case of known diverticulosis / diverticulitis.

I would advise you the following:
Test of blood, urine and stool.
CT scan of the abdomen as this gives the best idea about the cause and is necessary as you are a known case of diverticulosis.
Clinical evaluation, actual physical examination by a Doctor, preferably a General Surgeon help to have a clinical proper diagnosis and plan for a treatment.
You may need a a course of an antibiotic, metronidazole and supportive treatment like probiotic and so on.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications or if you feel there is a gap of communication.
