Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain Post A Gastric Bypass Surgery

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Apr 2017
Question: I had gastric bypass done over 10 years ago, I am female, 61 yrs old. During dinner tonight I got full suddenly and couldn't finish my meal. Then I started getting a pain in my stomach. I assumed I must have taken too big of a bite. Tried drinking some water when I got home but it didn't seem to help. That was over 7 ours ago. I've tried gagging to try to throw up but it doesn't seem to help. Never had pain like this before. Is this serious or should I be going to hospital? I don't have a local doctor at this time.

Brief Answer:
Taking antacid and proton pump inhibitor may help for a while.

Detailed Answer:
Thankyou for asking here.
Welcome to the HCM.
Dear since you have had surgery for gastric bypass already. So now you have to watch out carefully for what time you eat and what you eat.
For a while taking proton pump inhibitor and antiacid might help to release the pain. But if it persists then you might need to visit a Doctor.

If pain subsides with taking antacids ,I would like to suggest take small portions of meal every time with 6 meals plan every day.Avoid any spicy and fried thing and do not eat fruits with meal or within half an hour after meal.Drink plenty of water and start light walking for 45 minutes daily ,eat within 3 hours after completing one light meal. And last but very imortant ...do not sleep right after the dinner.Have your dinner atleast 2 hours before going to the bed.

Hopefully my answer will be helpful for you. Please let me know in case you need more help.
Wish you best of Health.

Thank you. Did as you advised. Pain increased along with some nausea. Hope that will subside soon. I had surgery over 12 years ago and this is the first time this has happened. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Take antacid after food.

Detailed Answer:
Dear I would also like to suggest that antacid should be taken after food and proton pump inhibitor for example.tab.omeprazole,tab esmprazole ,tab.pantoprazole should be taken before food.
And if it is associated with nausea also ,I would suggest taking combination of domperidone and pantoprazole will surely help. But if pain does not subside after atleast two doses please do inform doctor or you may also discuss with me again.

Thankyou
Best Regards,

Whatever is stuck has been there for 12 plus hours. Drinking warm water now to see if moves it along. Afraid to eat anything with something already stuck. Urgent Care doesn't open for a couple more hours. If not better will go there.

Brief Answer:
Dear you may need to get USG abdomen done.

Detailed Answer:
Thankyou for sharing.
Dear these symptoms can happen due to acidity but as you said you are having right side cramps also , then I would suggest you to get ultrasound abdomen done to rule out gall bladder stone .If USG is normal then taking light food will surely be helpful.
Best Regards
