Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain Radiating To Leg During Menstrual Cycle

Question: Hi! So i am still dealing with right sided lower discomfort. I currently have my menstrual cycle and cramps were bad for the first 2 days but i am left with an uncomfortable sensation on the right side. This pain has come and gone since May of this past year. Ive been to my gyn, gastro and they all say its part of being a woman and could be muscular. It feels like a cramp that radiates to my right leg and is very sensitive to touch and different positions. Its like a pinching sensation at times and sometimes the pain or discomfort radiates up to the upper part of the right side. Walking sometimes helps and when i go for Physical therapy, my PT works on my lower back and that sometimes helps but i am unsure whats causing the discomfort and i worry its something more since its been here for months on and off. My ultra sound has been normal, gyno exam normal, gastro did rectal exam and that was normal. I had a colonoscopy when i had similar pain on and off for 2 years about 8 years ago and they found a polyp. They removed it and repeated exam 5 years later ans it was normal. Im 36 so my gastro said we can do another exam in 4 years no need for one now. He sald the pain is either IBS or muscular. Bc its soreness too and to stop worrying. I also notice after i urinate it sometimes feels sore and both doctors said, muscular pain can do this. Is this true? My bowl movements go from soft stools to harder stools and flucuate. Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
Please give some more details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

There are few important information missing in your question:
1. Have you had any abdominal surgeries (including c-sections)
2. What kind of medicines have you tried
3. Have you had stool test and stool culture test, if so please mention about the results
4.Do you find any mucus or blood in your stool
5.Is the pain associated with foods intake?
6. Do you have this pain usually few days before menses?

Its easy to say muscular pain or IBS. But usually it means that the doctor has no idea about the reason of the pain. It is proven that in many cases what is thought to be IBS, for real is small intestine bacterial infection (or better overgrowth). That is why, it is always good to try Rifaximine treatment for this specific infection.

I`m looking forward to hearing from you.
Regards.

I had a stool test and it was normal. Yes pain increases before my cycle badly on that side but it feels more of a burning like pain and a cramp when i sit. When i walk, it gets relieved. Thanks for your help .

Brief Answer:
Please try contraceptive pills.

Detailed Answer:
As the pain increases before cycle, most likely its your menstrual pain. In some cases of such pain, gynecologists decide to give contraceptive pills. Usually it eliminates the pain completely. So why dont you ask your gynecologist to try such treatment.Brief Answer:
Menstrual pain can aggravate when moving.

Detailed Answer:
Well, menstrual pain actually can aggravate when moving. Actually, when you have strong menstrual pain, lying in one position makes it less intense, and when you move, it becomes much stronger. Uterine is nothing more than a muscle.
Try contraceptive pills and you will find out either its menstrual or not.
