Posted on Wed, 22 Mar 2017
Question: I have had severe pain in my upper right abdomen for over a week. My blood tests show that there are probably gallstones I have tried Tramadol from the GP which was not effective. I have now been on Morphine and Diazepam for the pain. I also regularly take paracetamol. These are not effective in controlling the pain. I am worried that I have an Ultasound on Thursday but am a large man and wonder if keyhole surgery can be done. I am 190 cm and weigh 160 kg. Please tell me how to stop the pain. I am taking the maximum dosage of my medications

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concern.
You have a BMI of 44+ means obese.
Some of the medicines are given on per kg dosages, of course with the upper cap. Please discuss with your Doctor to give you optimum allowable dosages.

Since Bariatric and Metabolic surgery is now an established procedure, same instruments can be used for any intra-abdominal surgery you need.
Since the BMI is so much, it will be better that you be under the consultation of the the TEAM at Bariatric center, their Nutritionist, exercise experts and the Bariatric surgeon and continue as per their advise for reduction of weight.

I hope, this answers your query. Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
