Brief Answer:
may need to alter medication, lifestyle changes and testing for h pylori

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Omeprazole and ranitidine (rantec) both reduce acid production in the stomach but omeprazole would cause a greater reduction.

It takes 5 to 7 days for these medications to sometimes have an effect because they cannot get rid of the acid already present, only stop future production. If they are not working for you, your doctor can try alternative medications such as neixum, prevacid

Since you have used the medication with no improvement, you can also try: (1) diet changes such as (a)avoiding spicy/acidic/citrus/fatty foods
(b)avoid tomatoes, caffeine products, onions, mint, chocolate
(c)use small frequent meals instead of large meals
(d)weight loss of any excess weight- the weight presses on the abdomen pushing up the acid
(e)wait 2 hours after eating before laying down

(2) YOu may need the blood test H pylori. This is a bacteria that can live in the stomach or duodenum. If it is present it can cause reflux symptoms that do not seem to improve

If it is detected then you would need a course of 2 antibiotics along with acid medication

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

I appreciate the best feedback you have given, could you suggest something to eat, as tomato and onion are kind of common diet in XXXXXXX can i have oats or rice n curd

Answered by Dr. Michelle Gibson James (11 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
can just reduce the amounts

Detailed Answer:
HI
Yes, you can have rice, oats , curd as well

The reason the tomato is excluded is because of the acid content and the onion because can make foods spicy but if you want, you can just reduce the amounts and not cut them off altogether
