Suggest Treatment For Severe Anxiety And Depression While On Zoloft
My daughter is 19 years old and has been training as an athlete ice dancer while going to college . She suffers from anxiety, depression and OCD. She is taking 100 MG of Zoloft and is still suffering. She might quit training as she can't get motivated and feels unhappy at the ice rink after training for 12 years. Her studies have been effected by her inability to stay focused or energized and she is depressed. She is in behavioral therapy. What type of treatment would you recommend?
Change of drug required.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns for your daughter.
She is taking Zoloft 100mg and still not responding.
The maximum dose of Zoloft is 200mg.
Her dose should be increased ideally.
But, based on my clinical experience, I would suggest a change of drug for her. Most people start responding (atleast some symptomatic improvement) to 100mg Zoloft. If there is no response at all, drug should be changed.
I would suggest prozac or paxil (prescription drug).
Cognitive behavior therapy can be done along with drugs.
She can also practice simple relaxation techniques like deep breathing and meditation to control anxiety.
Kindly discuss this with her doctor.
Please Do not hesitate to ask further if you have more questions.
Thanks.
Dr. Shubham Mehta.
