Necessity of a neurologist
Detailed Answer:
Good evening from XXXXXXX Ohio, USA. My name is Dr. Saghafi and I am a neurologist- Cha Ching! I am happy to give you my opinion on this case and hope you find the information useful. I believe at least philosophically speaking that psychiatrists and neurologists should have much closer working relationships that we actually do simply because there are many patients considered to be "purely psychiatric" who end up having NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS. And similarly there are patients who for all the world appear to be "purely neurological" who are PSYCHIATRIC in their presentation.
Having said that I believe the majority of patients in our respective disciplines tend to have a little bit of both worlds and therefore, could benefit from having consultations with the opposite specialist. Does that make sense?
In your particular case young lady I see you've had a CT of the brain. I'm assuming that result was normal and they didn't find anything out of the ordinary.
But to answer your question directly I think it would be potentially beneficial for you to get a neurological examination just to check your language fluency and ability to read and write in order to rule out any possible problems with those centers in the brain.
My guess from the description you've given, however, plus the fact that your psychiatrist has not seemed to find it necessary to send you to a neurologist is that your examination would come out to be normal.
If this answer is helpful to you I would appreciate your written feedback and star rating of the response. Also, I'd be most appreciative if you'd close the query on your end if there are no further comments or questions on your part. In this way the case can be archived for future use and reference as necessary.
All the best to you Down Under!

Feelings of detachment
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for the return comments.
I can appreciate how concerned you must be with these symptoms. I wish I could do more for you as a neurologist to answer your specific concerns but your symptoms really do follow very closely those of a dissociative type of disorder which is always considered to be of non-neurological origin until proven otherwise.
Having said that I maintain that if your psychiatrist or family physician were to agree that there were any chance that a physical entity could be affecting your brain and that a neurological examination and possible tests were necessary I would agree that such a review could be helpful. In that situation we could continue this conversation by your writing to me directly at:

and even uploading information such as test reports and/or a neurological examination report. I would be much more able to answer questions at that point if you had more.

May you have a very wonderful rest of 2014 and I hope 2015 provides you much health and good spirits.
