Suggest Treatment For Severe Anxiety While On Vyvanse
Question: I have done the adhd test/questionaires with a specialist and test highly likely to have it. But after seeing a specialist my doctor got me to go to a psychiatrist. After talking to the psychiatrist and telling them a little about myself. How my upbringing was like and if i had any addictions to drugs. My upbringing wasn't the best, considering move out on my own at the age of 14. Also i do smoke quite abit of marijuana at the age of 18. Ever since then i like to sit back and unwind with a puff or two, But i do it everyday. After telling the psychiatrist everything, i went back to my family doctor and was prescribed cymbalta then after cipralex cause i was having bad side effects from the first precription for depression. Also i was diagnosed with anxiety and i was given appo lorazapam. She also wanted me to give up marijuana because she could not diagnosed me properly with adhd when im on another substance constantly. I havnt been on any of the meds after giving it a try for a few months and having all bad side effects from them. I also still havnt given up marijuana. After being off the meds for a bit i didnt want to even go back to my family doctor because i feel like shes taking marijuana into account too much and a little biased because it is an a illegal drug. I have not seen here in about 4-5 years maybe longer. During that time all i was doing was moving around to different homes and apartments around 5-6 times in thr past 2 years. Never being able to hold a steady job because i get extremly bored and eventually quit and find another job. Even back to when i remeber during highschool and elementary school i was always very easily distracted and never attentive during class. I've been struggling through life for a very long time. Up until 5 month ago i happen to come across some adderalls which i found helped me focused well, but i was having bad side effects from them. But the past 1-3 months i came across some vyvanse and they helped me alot with staying focused and very productive. I take a 50 mg of vyvanse every other day when i wake up. because i can 15 pills a month from the "sky". my life has changed drastically thr past 3 month while being on vyvanse. I also notice that i am better at remembering and getting things done. also ive been able to hold a job for longer than a month which was a huge XXXXXXX too me because i usually get bored and wander to a next job pretty quick. The only thing is, i am not diagnosed with adhd and do not have a proper precription. I fear if i go back to my family doctor and tell her all of this. She will think i have a major addiction problem. I admit i am highly addicted to marijuana and ciggerettes. But i genuinley think the vyvanse are making a huge positive impact effect on my life. What should i do? Please help. I would like to stop getting vyvanse illegally and actually have a proper prescription for it. Or anything that will help me stay more focused and productive in my life.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, and thanks for your question.
The psychiatrist was right. It is impossible to diagnose ADHD while addicted to marijuana. Marijuana has been proven to worsen cognition including concentration. If you are having trouble concentrating, Vyvanse will not solve this problem. Detoxing and remaining abstinent from marijuana is the first and most important step to improving your cognition.

There is no scientific answer to that question that I am aware of, but I would probably wait at least 4 weeks while abstinent before readdressing this issue with your psychiatrist.
