Question: I have severe arthritis I have severe pain which I have been treating with mersyndol tablets which now require a driver's license to acquire them I have been to three doctors about getting an alternative pain tablet for this two of which did nothing to help the last doctor has given me targin 10 but this has not done anything to help the pain I am starting to feel like the doctors in this small town have a thought that everyone asking for pain relief are drug addicts I am 60years old and never taken an illicit drug and as I said earlier was treating myself and had not been near a doctor. I am to the stage where I don't know how much longer I can live with this chronic pain.

Please send your investigations.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your query I will like to tell you that , please mention which type of arthritis you have . Because different types of arthritis are treated differently . Just taking pain killers is not solution , we need to treat the main cause . After seeing your profile I will tell you what to do next .

Take care.

I have already had one knee replacement and my right knee is bone on bone I have an appointment to see a specialist in three months time in view of having this knee replacement but that does not help me at the moment our hospital waiting lists can be any thing over 12months .I am a nurse and every night apart from the physical lifting at my work I walk 7,963 steps due to the layout of the facility. I do not have rheumatoid arthritis and also have arthritis in my back and thumbs which I have no problem living with that pain but my knee pain is Excruciating. I don't complain about anything and never go the doctor or hospital for anything but this pain is really getting the better of me.

Dear Madam,

Thank you for reverting back.

Well from your symptoms I see that you have osteoarthritis of knees that is troubling you . Firstly try to reduce your weight , as this will take load of your knees . Also start some supplement like chondroitin sulphate . For pain relief standard guidelines recommend using paracetamol as it happens to be safe drug for long term use . You can also consider using tramadol after discussing with your doctor . Also if your doctor feels , he can give you intraarticular cortisone injection in the knee which may bring relief in knee pain . Doing quadriceps exercise is also going to benefit you immensely . Also have they looked out for osteoporosis ?
