Brief Answer:
Slipped disc and pinched nerve

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

The cause of such severe back pain could be any. Most commonly a pinched nerve due to slipped disc can cause severe pain in the lower back that radiates to the legs in most cases, aggravated on sitting, standing, walking, bending forwards or on lifting weights.

You must apply a hot water bottle to the area of pain to relieve the accompanying muscle spasm. Also pain killer and muscle relaxant combination is better like Tablet Diclofenac and Thiocolchicoside combination. You must avoid bending forwards or lifting weights.

If oral medication isn't giving relief, an MRI scan could point out more severe nerve compression which can warrant an Epidural steroid injection whicb is given in the back. This should give you considerable relief compared to tablets for a few months. Also back stretching exercises need to be done which can be discussed with your Physiotherapist.

As of now, keep a thin pillow under your lower back. Lie flat on a firm mattress. Apply hot water bottle to the painful area. While getting off bed, turn your entire body to a side and then get up. You can take Tablet Paracetamol/Acetaminophen 1000mg stat and apply pain killing gel as well for relief. You must see your Orthopaedician as soon as possible and get an MRI spine as advised as necessary.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
