Brief Answer:
Most likely from sciatica.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to sciatica. This is due to compression or irritation of nerve due to lumbar disc problems like prolapse. A physical examination by orthopedicain followed by X ray and (MRI if required) of lumbar spine will be helpful to rule out this.
Most cases will get improved by conservative therapy alone.
Rest for 4 to 5 days is required. I would suggest muscle relaxants like Tizanidine and NSAIDs like aceclofenac for short duration. These are prescription drugs. You can also do hot fomentation or warm compress with the help of some one. Applying methyl salicylate and diclofenac gels locally also is good. Gels like Volini are available as over the counter for this. Avoid lifting weights and ending down. Use hard bed for sleeping. Avoid sleeping on abdomen.. You can place a pillow under knee while sleeping. Using a orthopedic pilow under neck is also good.
You can also wear a lumbar corset while walking or sitting. After a short period of rest if no improvement then you can go for physiotherapy like TENS, ultrasound therapy, short wave diathermy or massage. Back muscle strengthening exercise also helps. Muscle relaxants will help to come out of pain - spasm- pain vicious cycle.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
