Suggest Treatment For Severe Chills And Night Sweats

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Aug 2016
Question: Last night after sleeping for approximately 90 minutes I woke up with a severe chill. I put on sox, sweat pants and asecond light blanket. Approximately two hours later, I awoke and my pillow and sheets were drenched in sweat. I am a well nourished, white male, age 71. I have experienced night sweats; never had a teeth rattling, shivering chill.

Brief Answer:
Probably the beddings were too much!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I believe the beddings were too much and this is the reason why you experienced the night sweats. I will simply recommend that you try to reduce the beddings when you next go to sleep. A single episode of night sweats does not represent any disease condition. There is really little to bother about in this light. With your health being okay with no other concerns, I suggest that you monitor only for now. If this happens over and over again, at that time would I suggest further evaluation to establish the cause and treat accordingly. Do not forgot to drink much water in compensation for this fluid loss.

Keep me posted on your progress. I will like to review further with you and instruct accordingly if more symptoms do arise. I wish you well

Thank you for your response. Please speak to the "severe chill". (Night sweats are not out of the ordinary for me.)

I live in Arizona with an outdoor temp of 105 degrees. My air conditioning has been set at a conservative 77 degrees F for almost two months.

As stated, "I have experienced night sweats; never had a teeth-rattling, shivering chill."

Brief Answer:
Has this happened again?

Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks for this follow up question.

If it is a one time observation, there is no reason to investigate. If it happens consistently, then we need to investigate fully and understand what the cause is. Different causes could range from infections to blood disorders. Let me know if this is still going on as to direct further evaluations and investigations.

Keep me posted.
