Question: I am traveling in XXXXXXX from US and have a severe cold that started with sore throat and now moving into lungs causing cough. The cough is not congested. Some congestion in sinus. Someone local brought me Cipla - Nicip Cold & Flu. Are these safe to take and will they provide relief? What else should I look for? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
there are some things to watch for...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

this drug contains various active ingredients. It will help with the symptoms and deal with runny nose, stuffy nose and malaise. It's not an antibiotic or antiviral drug.

There are some ingredients that raise concerns though. Nimesulide may cause stomach and other problems (ulcer, ulcer complications, renal damage, worsening of blood pressure, etc). It also contains a decongestant which may also worsen blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

The rest of the drugs are an antihistamine and caffeine. Caffeine may cause anxiety symptoms, arrhythmia and the antihistamine may cause drowsiness, dizziness and other problems mostly related to central nervous system depression.

If you're healthy without any prior history of stomach problems, hypertension, aneurysms, etc then you can use this drug. Make sure you take it with food.

Kind Regards!
