Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections. Irrespective of treatment it usually spontaneously resolves in a week or so.
Children often do not feed well when ill. That is likely to be the case here. Irrespective of whether the child takes food properly, please do not give sweets and chocolates to your child. They do more harm than good. Regarding the overall status, I would insist you to rather monitor the overall activity level of your child. If the child seems lethargic, you should visit a doctor and get his evaluated and investigated. But if he is otherwise active and playful, you need not worry. It would soon be fine.
Give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief.
Let me know if I could help further.
