Brief Answer:
Seems to be LRTI (Lower respiratory tract infection/inflammation)

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com

Based on your description, I think the problem is inflammation/viral infection of lower respiratory tract/bronchitis.

You will need to visit your primary care physician for a complete physical and if required an X-ray of chest.

Cough suppressants like benadryl are not ideal in such a situation where the bronchii are constricted due to inflammation.

Mucolytic agents such as guaphenesin or ambrolite will be helpful.

If there is no fever, it is more likely to be allergic inflammation or viral infection which is best treated with a short course of inhaled steroids and bronchodilators such as Salbutamol/slameterol.

All these medicines are prescription only so you will need to consult your local doctor and get treated accordingly.

In the meanwhile, it will be helpful to do salt water gargling 3 times a day and steam inhalation 3 to 4 times a day.

I hope this answers your concerns. Please feel free to write back to me if you have additional concerns.

Best regards
