Suggest Treatment For Severe Cramps In The Calf Muscles

Posted on Thu, 4 Aug 2016
Question: Recently I've been getting leg cramps in my calf. I drive long distances twice a week and I work at a computer all day at work. I also work around the house and yard and am standing on my feet a lot. I was wondering if it was because of any of these or the lack of water that I drink daily or something else.

Brief Answer:
Drink adequate water, stretching

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome
I have gone through your query.

It can be due to dehydration, muscle fatigue or electrolyte abnormalities. ( You have mentioned long standing that leads to fatigue and lack of adequate water intake leading to dehydration) It is better to drink sufficient fluid and also see that your intake of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium ) is sufficient.

I feel as you have mentioned long distance driving, it may be regarded to it. You should be fine.

Doing passive stretching exercises of the legs under the guidance of a physiotherapist will also help and along with this putting ice, warm bath, most people get better with these.

Hope this helps
I'll be glad to address your further queries.
Take care
