Question: I have a spur in my left heel. My left foot was now without an arch so I am wearing a brace but it made the spur worst. i can't hardly walk because of the spur and not just because of the cramps in my right foot because I was walking on my left side of my right foot before the brace.( I have always been flat footed but I have totally lost any arch in my right foot.) What can I do now to get rid of the spur?

Brief Answer:
You need to get steroid injection in heel

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I have studied your case. Pain in heel is a used by your calcaneal spur. You are also flat foot that is also increasing your pain. I have following suggestions for you.
1. Hot water fomentation by keeping your feet in warm water daily for twenty minutes.
2.Wear soft foot wear. Avoid bare foot walking. Make sure that your blood sugar and thyroid is normal.
3.Steroid injection can be given in heel by trained orthopaedic doctor.
4.Remiving heal spur is last option and should be kept for very resistant cases. It can be done by endoscopic method also.

I am wearing a brace on the affected foot because I learned that my foot is now rolling inward and I have been walking on the side of my foot. My arch is totally gone. there for I have to wear a hard brace and that makes the pain worst.

Brief Answer:
No need to brace this

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Bracing at this age for flat feet is not going to useful. You can apply silicon insoles which are much softer and can be easily worn. They will help in heel pain also. I do not think hard brace is going to be of any advantage to you.

The brace is for the fact that I am walking on the inter side of my foot. I am having bad cramps and other problems with my muscles and tendons stretched to the limit. I have gotten so I almost can't walk on my feet.

Brief Answer:
For cramps you need calcium and salt

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Cramps and pain in leg can be due to low salt and calcium in body. So you need to check your vitamin D and calcium level. Also take salt in your diet. I am not suggesting to remove brace. You just need to use a softer one. Very hard braces can cause heel pain specially in those who have spur. So take some soft silicone gel insole. Thanks
