Suggest Treatment For Severe Depression While Mourning The Demise Of Family Members
You probably need anti anxiety medicines with supportive psychotherpay
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us. I am sorry for your family member loss. RIP. I can understand your feelings.
According to research grief is natural human reaction. As time passes grief should be decreased and person should get back to routine life from 1 to 6 months.
When grief is persistent and symptoms of sad mood, weeping spells, hopelessness, reduce sleep, reduce appetite are extended beyond one month without reduction in severity there is possibility of depression. In that case treatment is needed.
Celexa is an anti-depressant medicine. If I were your treating doctor I would like to give sertraline or mirtazapine with clonazepam. Clonazepam (klonopin) is a benzodiazepine group drug and very good anti-anxiety medicine. In low dose it gives calming effects and makes you relax. Some higher dose it helps in sleep. It can be taken for short duration for fast symptomatic relief. Discuss with your doctor about the same.
Of course there is also need of supportive psychotherapy which helps in coming out of grief.
Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
