Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: My daughter aged 2 years 9 months is passing loose stools for the last 3 days. She is passing 3-4 times in a day. The stool is not completely watery but I can call it a semi. There is no Vomiting. There is no fever. There is no traces of blood n he stool and she is passing the urine regularly. We are required to travel for the next 4 days. We would like to carry a SOS Medicine along with the regular treatment if any.

Brief Answer:
ORS is the mainstay of treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. It seems that your child has an episode of mild diarrhea. The mainstay of treatment is breast milk and ORS (oral rehydration solution). Unless the lost salts and fluids are replenished the child may become dehydrated. The urine output needs to be monitored. If the frequency comes down it indicates dehydration and calls for additional supplementation of fluids. But if the child becomes lethargic you would need to take her to a hospital without delay.

You need to be patient. The increased frequency of passage of stool may persist for a couple of days before it resolves. Since there is no blood in the stool there is nothing to worry.

Other than ORS there is no other SOS medicine that you need to carry.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
