Hello!
Welcome on HCM!
Your symptoms could be related to different causes:
- cervical column chronic degeneration (also called spondylarthrosis)
- a narrowing the cervical arteries, which supply blood to the brain.
Are your symptoms triggered by neck movements? Do you have neck pain or headache? These symptoms could indicate possible spondylarthrosis.
If the problem persists, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing some tests:
- a cervical spine X ray study
- a Doppler ultrasound of the cervical arteries to study the blood flow in them
- complete blood count for anemia.
From the other hand, amytriptiline could also cause dizziness. How long have you been taking it? If you have started it recently, dizziness could be explained by its adverse effects too.
Meanwhile, I recommend avoiding abrupt movements of your head and body, take plenty of fluids to remain well hydrated and avoid straining physical activity. Having some rest would help.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri

I don't have any neck pain.
I have had a doppler of my carotid arteries in my neck. All came up as ok. I have had a few episodes of slurred speech & unable to talk over the last year, the reason for asa & clopidogrel. maybe between the clopidogrel & amtriptyline it has
caused yhe dizziness. anyway thankyou for the help.
My opinion as follows:

Hello again!
Thank you for the additional information.
Amitriptyline can cause orthostatic hypotension and low blood pressure. But, as you have been taking it for 6 weeks, you should have got used to this drug.
From the other hand, your past medical history for TIA (transitory ischemic attacks) is a little concerning for any stroke.
If your symptoms persist, especially when walking, or if you have difficulty in the coordination of your limbs, I would recommend going to the ER for a brain CT scan.
A cervical spine X ray would also be necessary to exclude possible chronic degeneration of your cervical spine. The fact that your symptoms are relieved a little by meclizine, indicates possible peripheral vertigo (which is usually related to the cervical spine and the inner ear).
I would also recommend following my advices during the day.
Wishing good health,
Dr. Iliri
