Brief Answer:
Just rest & fluids for now

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Your symptoms indicate a possible flu.
Would you clarify a few things for me please?
*do you have a fever? If yes how high?
*how many loose stools have you had? Is it watery? Any mucus or blood in it? Does it smell bad?
*does your abdomen hurt?
*how is your urine? Colour & quantity?
*any nausea, sore throat, headaches?

I recommend :
-plenty of rest and proper Hydration. Have sips of warm water throughout the day, instead of all at once.
- monitor your temperature thrice a day (using an oral thermometer). Make sure you have not had any liquids/food for 10 minutes prior to taking your temperature.
-have a bland diet, avoid sugary, carbonated and caffeinated drinks & spicy foods.
-avoid milk till your stools normalize.
-take oral rehydration solutions (200ml for every loose stool)
-take a vitamin C supplement (500mg)one a day. Avoid this if it worsens your abdominal discomfort.

These measures should help with recovery.
If you don't recover in a week
-or develop any new symptoms that don't go away on its own
-or if you have a high temperature (more than 102f) for more than 3 days
-or your urine is concentrated
-or if you notice any rashes or unusual bleeding tendency, see your doctor.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with and kindly get back to me with the above requested clarifications.

Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad

Brief Answer:
Symptoms indicate a stomach bug

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up and clarifications.

Malaria is possible but your current symptoms are not indicative of it.
It is more likely to be a stomach bug. It good news that you are feeling better, however, your urine indicates dehydration.
Make sure to stay well hydrated (include oral rehydration solution, even gatorade will do) and eat home cooked meals.

It takes anywhere between a week to 40 days for symptoms of malaria to show up, depending on the type of parasite. So if you develop any fever with body aches with rigors that lasts for more that 3days, see your doctor for a blood test.

Hope I've helped. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad

Brief Answer:
Not at this point

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,

I don't think it it necessary to get tested for malaria at this point.
However, if you don't feel back to your self in 7-10 days or have prolonged fatigue, sudden rigors or fever, see your doctor to rule out malarial infection. If you feel fine, then no need for testing.

Sometimes, a history of travel to places like Kenya (where malaria is endemic) can lead the airport authorities to ask for test results (that indicate a clean XXXXXXX of your health) before traveling.
I suggest you enquire about this beforehand so that you visit will be unhindered.

Hope you enjoy your trip to Italy. Make sure you stay well hydrated during travel. Am glad to have been of help. Would be happy to help with any further queries you may have.
Wish you the best.

Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
