Brief Answer:
Gastroesopageal reflux or Laryngopharyngeal reflux can be the reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Gastroesophageal or Laryngopharyngeal reflux can be the reason of your wife's problem. Proton pump inhibitors like pantoperazole (pan40) help to some extent. But I would suggest more effective proton pump inhibitors like Rabeprazole and motility enhancers like domperidone both in sustained release form for long term for this. These are prescription drugs. You can approach your local doctor for this. Antacids with anaesthetics like Mucaine gel can be taken thrice daily till resolving of acute symptoms

Modification in diet and life style is also important. Take light meals at short intervals. Avoid spicy , fatty, greasy and junk foods. Have dinner at least 2 hours before bed time. Raise your head end more with extra adequate pillows. Have stress relaxation by deep breathing exercises. Sit relaxed and take deep breaths. Avoid coffee and excess tea. She can have ginger tea or chamomile tea which is good also.

If there is no improvement after 1 month then a consultation with Gastroenterologist and doing fibrogastroduodenoscopy should be done to know the exact status.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
