Suggest Treatment For Severe Gastric Pain In A Child

Question: My daughter 7 months only suffering from extreme gastric pain. Plsss help
Brief Answer:
Clinical evaluation needed to confirm.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health care magic.
I have gone carefully through your query. A 7 month old child cannot speak and express pain. Rather, it is likely that the child is crying incessantly. I would need to know the exact nature of the problem and how long it has been present. Also mention if there is any relationship with taking of feeds. Based on your inputs I would definitely try to help you out.
If she really has gastric pain, taking Nexpro XXXXXXX half such twice daily should help (confirm with your doctor.)
Regards

Thanks, I mentioned in very short let me explain the problem . She took formula milk initially for 2 months then gastric trouble started happening as used to cry lot at night. I wld give collicoid to soothe n reliev her from pain.(one thing I wld like to mention she us teething also . During 4 th month her tooth has appeared . Pls tell me medicine to subside teething pains n problem also)
Now she is on exclusive breast milk from last 5 months and even then she has gastric problem. I hv stopped giving her any outside food like dal, milk etc bcz she use to cry very much at night.
Now from the last one week it seems as if she had a gastric attacks. She cries non stop and is very cranky for abt 3-4 hour. And this attack has happened after evry 2 days so I gave her phenargan even after knowing it is vry harmful syrup for infants.
I'm worried and I am unable to handle her pain bcz I don't know why this gas is trapped inside her.

Brief Answer:
Semisolid food is essential at this age.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for elaborating on the problem.
It is good that you are breast feeding your baby. However after 6 months of age, merely breast milk does not suffice and semisolids need to be given to meet the energy requirements of the baby. Rather than gastric pain it seems more likely that the baby is crying of hunger than anything else. Proper burping will ensure that gas does not remain trapped in her abdomen
No medicine is usually required for teething pain. In case you still feel it required, Crocin (paracetamol) drops may be given.

Thanks, about semi solid foods I had started giving her but she refused to take and if somet ime she took she cried out with same gas problem. I doubt if she is having any inside stomach problem or swelling inside stomach.
I have noticed her passing gas many times in a day.
If she cries with hunger I offer dal n milk but she don't take it that also.
So therefore I'm really clueless and should I give her phenargan in case if extreme crying

Brief Answer:
Clinical examination mandatory
Detailed Answer:
I understand your concerns but your child needs to be examined clinically. It is very hard to comment whether carefully evaluating and analyzing whether there is some underlying pathology and I would strongly recommend that you visit a doctor and get your child checked. You should not base yourself on your assumptions when it comes to the matters of such a small child.
There are you three stages of weaning. The initial stage consists of giving slightly thick liquids before mashed semisolids are introduced. You need a proper guidance and your doctor would be able to evaluate if your techniques are proper.
Please share the doctor's notes after your visit and mention if you have any further queries and I would be glad to help.

Hello,
I have showed her to doctor but doctor has not examined her physically and he said that this type of problem ( extreme gastric) occurs in some child and it will remain up to age 1 and half year and then it goes away on its own .
He prescribed me medicine syrup lanzol and syrup bandy .
What is your opinion in this and what is this syrup bandy for?
And what medicine should I give her when she cries soo much bcz of stomach pain?
Syrup collicoid remain ineffective in extreme gastric pain.
She is also suffering from cold and cough. Any medicine?

Brief Answer:
Bandy is a deworming agent and can be given.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Your doctor seems to identify it as abdominal colic which is common in children. As rightly pointed, usually it subsides gradually on its own. However, he has given lanzol (lansoprazole) to take care of his acid secretion, if that creates any problems. Bandy (albendazole) is a deworming agent which is often given to children from time to time. Children of this age put things in the mouth which increases the likelihood of getting worm infestations which in turn could lead to abdominal pain. I would insist you to give him Bandy and to repeat the dose after a fortnight.
If the child cries too much you can give him Decolic or Colicaid Drops (simethicone) 5 drops. For cough and cold cetirizine syrup should help. I would also insist you to give steam inhalation. Just sit with the child in your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. It will help in diluting the cough.
