Suggest Treatment For Severe Hair Loss And Itchy Scalp
Question: My wife is 31 yrs old .she is on thyronorm 150mcg since 4 yrs.Her TSH is always under 2 but still she is advised to continue with the same dosage.
She has PCOS but not on any medication for rhe same.She had taken Depo provera shots thrice between XXXXXXX 2015 to Oct 2015.after stopping t injection she got her period in may 2016.since then her periods were regular till XXXXXXX 2017.however she missed her periods in Feb 17. and got it in March.again she hasn't got it in april .she is also having severe hair loss and extremely itchy scalp with dandruff. for the past 8 to 10 months.plz suggest.

I have gone through the detailed history provided. The absence of periods now can be due to hormonal imbalance caused by PCOS. The normal range of TSH is after taking the thyroid hormone supplement- thyronorm regularly. if you reduce the dosage the TSH levels will again start increasing.
Hair loss and itchy scalp are due to dandruff. Dandruff is a form of skin eczema involving basically the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp.
It can be caused by :-
-Frequent exposure to extreme heat and cold,
-Known to be caused by a yeast that lives on the skin called Malassezia furfur,
-Severe stress,
Some times an added infections of scalp are also seen most likely fungal infection there by causing itching.
As a treatment you can use lotion of Selenium sulfide by the name Selsun.
Also using shampoos containing anti fungal like Ketoconazole along with zinc pyrithione(ZPTO) help to treat and reduce the dandruff.
To get the regular periods hormonal tablets may be needed after consulting her gynecologist.
