Unfortunately, I do not have any current x-rays. I do not have diabetes. I do have thyroid issues (hyperthyroid). I have only tried to take some Ibuprofen for the pain. It does not help.
Would arthritis cause instability? Why suddenly and in both knees? Why the sweating and chilling? My left knee is swollen to the size of a baseball and is red and hot to the touch. The pain is worse than I have ever had before.

Brief Answer:
It is due to arthritis with synovitis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Your painful swollen knee is due to collection of fluid in the knee joint. This is knee synovitis. This is common with knee arthritis. I have following suggestions for you.
1.You need to apply ice and take Advil.
2.Get some blood work in form of CRP, WBC count and ESR. If there is any high in these tests then it means that you are having knee synovitis. In that case you need to apply steroid Injection in knee joint and take Antibiotics also.
3.Instablity is due to fluid collection and meniscus tears in arthritis.
4,You also need to make sure that your thyroid hormone level is normal.
I hope these steps will be helpful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
