Suggest Treatment For Severe Muscle Cramps In The Back
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi, I have been in moderate to severe pain for two weeks. The intense pain came in the middle of the night. It seemed to be caused by severe cramping of my back muscle. I have made several emergency room visits because of the intense pain. I have had a catscan, xrays, blood work and urinalysis. Everything appeared to be normal. I've been given prednisone, muscle relaxers. and pain killers and that has given me some temporary relief. I am at a loss. The muscle cramping has never completely gone away and it sometimes causes tremendous pain. I have an MRI scheduled in several days. This just happened all of a sudden and I don't remember pulling or straining anything. Any help would be appreciated. No one yet has come up with a reason for my intense pain.
Brief Answer:
Possibility of Spinal/disc disease.MRI Spine will help in the diagnosis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
In view of your background history, MRI Spine appears to be mandatory for the diagnosis. Most likely diagnosis in this scenario would be Lumbar disc/spine related pathology. MRI will hopefully give you the reason for the same.
For now, a short course of Non steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines like Naproxen may be taken.Further, proper treatment may be decided after MRI.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

I have had other episodes of nerve pain I believe caused by an inflamed nerve. Prednesone gave me almost immediate relief from the pain. I am thinking that this might be another inflamed nerve issue. I have gone through one round of prednisone with no results. Is there anything else that would calm that nerve down or do you think I should try another round of prednisone?
Brief Answer:
Treatment needs a proper diagnosis
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
I understand your concern here however Prednisolone is not something which should be given randomly without a proper diagnosis.
For now, A short course of Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) like Naproxen, will likely be of help. You can take Naproxen 500 mg twice a day after meals for 5 days.Along with, Tab Pantoprazol 40 mg once a day empty stomach should be taken.
Proper treatment can be planned after MRI.
PLEASE TAKE MEDICINES UNDER A PHYSICIAN'S GUIDANCE ONLY.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
