Suggest Treatment For Severe Muscle Strain

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Aug 2016
Question: I have had what feels like a severe muscle strain in my back for several days. It seems to get worse as the day goes on. At times I cannot catch my breath. I notice it as a sharp pain when I try to stand up. I have tried using a heating pad at night. What kinds of things could this be?

Brief Answer:
Slip disc, Sacroiliac arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Does the pain radiate to the lower limbs?

Does the pain aggravate on bending forwards or lifting weights?

Any tingling or numbness?

It is possible that you may be having a slip disc and arthritis of the spine. Also possible is sacroiliac arthritis.

Avoid bending forwards or lifting weights. Apply hot packs to the painful regions. Take Tablet Diclofenac with Thicolchicoside combination twice a day for 5 days after meals and Tablet Ranitidine 150mg twice a day for 5 days before meals.

Do get an Xray and MRI of the lumbosacral spine. I shall review the investigations and comment on the nature of your problem.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
