default
Posted on Fri, 18 Nov 2016
Question: I'm on Cumaden. Have a nose bleed that won't stop. CAN NOT go the the hospital. What can I do? Took my blood test-- it's at 6.3 but should be between 2 - 3. Have lost a lot of blood. Will try holding it closed for 10 mins., but hasn't let up.

Brief Answer:
Ideally you should visit an ER.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. From your description, you should be attended to in a hospital.

2. Ideally you should visit an ER.

3. A nasal pack (such as merocel, ivalon or a rhinostat) should be inserted for 48 to 72 hours. Medical therapy to correct the bleeding and clotting parameters, including dose adjustment, blood transfusion in some cases is required urgently.

4. A nasal endoscopy and cautery may be required.

5. It is difficult for a specialist to control such bleeds in a hospital, let alone manage this at home.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
