Suggest Treatment For Severe Osteoporosis
I ve took some blood test to my mother and all seems to be ok, a little bit Calcium is over the rage, Vit D is ok, the PTH and TSH is normal, menopause was at 49, i m just thinking how is possible so early at this age to have this score, she didn t take any corticoterapy therapy.
I ve XXXXXXX a lot of studies in wich, the treatment with
bisphosphonates like acid ibandronic or alendronic or zoledronic will increase the rate of fracture the femure in the time is strengthens the spine, and logicaly the most frecvent fracture is at the femure not at the spine, i am just terriffied thinking i will force her to take tratment and over 2 3 years she will fracture the femure.....also the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw that is very frecvent not to mention the side effects after taking the medication, pain in the muscle and maybe fever and ..and..and.
What is your position on taking Bonviva one a month ?
Another question, teriparatide ? i konw the first joice is
bisphosphonates and after maybe teriparatide? but the studies tell more good thinks about teriparatide comparade with bisphosphonates ?
Is even a small possibility to not take drugs like acid ibandronic? and to start running and supliments ?
YOur mother need to take biphosfonates.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have gone through yuor query and understood your concern.
The T-scor result of your mom indicate that she need immediately pharmacological intervention to limit fracture risk.
Don't worry about the fractures in the femur. The T score result of her femur is near the lower limit of the normal range.Actually she has mild osteopenia in the femur and osteoporosis in vertebrae.
Biphosfonates are a good choice in cases like your mother.Lots of clinical trials clearly shows that, bisphosphonates are highly effective at limiting the loss of bone mass, deterioration of bone microarchitecture, and increased fracture risk that occur with aging.
The benefits of biphosfonate use are not more important than the adverse effects. For this reason ,i have recommend to start biphosfonates lots of my patients that had problems like your mother and most of them had very good results.
So,for me it is Ok to take Bonviva once a month and with bisphosphonate therapy,i recommend to take adequate calcium and vitamin D intake for better results in bone density.
Teriparatide is Parathyroid Hormone Analog and it is used for the treatment of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis who are at high risk for fracture, but it is not so effective like ibandronic acid.
So in my opinion, the right therapy for your mom is ibandronic acid(Bonviva).Don't worry about the side effects because thay are rare and not more important than the benefits.
Hope i have clarified your doubts.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ana,
Vitamin D is required for the regulation of the minerals calcium and phosphorus found in the body. It also plays an important role in maintaining proper bone structure.
Alfacalcidol or 1-alpha-hydroxycholecalciferol is the best vitamin D supplement for the prevention and for treating weak bones (osteoporosis). It is also used for preventing falls and fractures in people at risk for osteoporosis.
So, this is the right supplement for your mother's actual condition.
My advice for your mother is : A healthy diet with adequate calcium and vitamin D, sun exposure and regular physical activity, will help you to achieve strong bones and may reduce the risk of fractures.
Hope this information is helpful for you.
