Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain And Bruise On Coccyx After Injury

I had a fall on my back around months back and had a bruise on the tailbone. It started getting better until my physiotherapist pressed it very hard while checkong for pain. Then it got worse. Ct scan, mdi and bond scan are normal. But the pain isnog going away. I feel pain when squeezin the buttocks the most. And while sitting or getting up from a seat. But squeezig the butt is the maximum pain.
Can this be cured, the doctor is hinting at the condition being chronic and that I have to live with it.
Please help
Can be due to coccyx inflammation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the tailbone area can be due to an inflammation of coccyx bone. Follow these measures for relief from the symptoms:
1) Avoid sitting down for long periods of time. When seated, do not sit on hard surfaces and do alternate sitting on each side of the buttocks. Also, lean forward and direct your weight away from the tailbone.
2) Take adequate rest and apply cold compresses, avoid re-injury to the affected area and take some antiinflammatory and pain medications like ibuprofen(motrin) or diclofenac. Some severe cases with persistent coccydynia are treated with oral muscle relaxants or local cortisone injection and surgical resection of the coccyx.
3) You can also use a "doughnut" cushion or pillow to sit on. This cushion has a hole in the middle of it to prevent the tailbone from contacting the flat surface.
4) Also eat a high fiber diet foods to soften stools and avoid constipation.
The pain can resolve gradually with time. This is not likely to be a chronic condition. Do take oral anti inflammatory medicines to reduce the inflammation.
I hope this answers your query.

Thanks for the reply. But, I have already tried these treatements since the past 4 months and also took the steroid injection as mentioned in the details above.
The injection did not help much and the pain still persists.
Can this be cured at all?
Surgical resection may be considered.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If the problem is persistent in spite of all the treatments then surgical resection of coccyx may be considered to relieve pain. You can discuss about this option with your orthopedician.
