Question : Dr - I have been having left side constantly, for the last four days. I have a history of kidney stones, but I remember the pain as severe. I also fractured four ribs about 4 years ago, so I don't know what problem is. I do not have a fever. The pain goes up to my left shoulder. I'm not a physician, but I have no pains in my heart. I do have colitis, but it this does not seem to be affecting my bowels. I'm also having some shortness of breath, & a bad cough. My name is XXXXXXX

                                    Brief Answer:
You should be investigated.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Fracture ribs will not cause pain after 4 years.
Pain of colitis doesn't radiate to shoulder. It will be associated with diarrhoea.
Left sided kidney stones may cause pain , more in the back.
As you are having cough and shortness of breath, you might have acquired infection of the lungs.
In my opinion, you should consult your doctor and get an Ultrasound abdomen to rule out kidney stones, Xray Chest -PA view to know the status of lungs.
Till then, antibiotic like azithromycin and anti inflammatory tablet might help you. .
Hope I answered your query.
Wish you good health.
Regards

I ended up going to the ER because the pain got worse. They ruled out any kidney problems or chest abnormalities. I could not believe what I was diagnosed with - muscle spasms ! I was so afraid to go to the hospital, but my husband told me firmly that he was taking me. I am so relieved, & I really appreciate your input about the situation. I was also dehydrated, so they gave me some fluids also.
Thank You, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
