Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Big Toe

Question: My big toe is hurting . I can see that the liagiment is not showing on the top of the toe like it is on the other good toe. Did I likely tear that liagiment?
It started hurting about 3 days ago and has gotten worse until today it is very painful and I can not walk.

Have you banged up your toe recently ?

Are you wearing constricting footwear with a narrow toe box ?

Since you notice a difference vertebral the toes on each for, or is possible that the affected toe is swollen compared to the normal toe of the other foot.

The are many causes of swollen and painful toe like trauma which can cause fracture of the toe bones or ligament tear between the toe bones or both. Also certain arthritis like Gout can cause redness, increased warmth, swelling and severe pain of the toe joint.

Avoid diet with may, spinach, broccoli, dried fish, mushrooms, beer as these can aggravate an attack of Gout arthritis. Drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated. Avoid smoking.

It is best to avoid bearing weight on that foot. You can use a crutch to move about to you meet with your Orthopaedic surgeon. You can take over the counter Ibuprofen tablets to help with the pain and swelling.

It is best to consult an Orthopaedic surgeon or Rheumatologist age get a thorough examination and necessary investigations like Xray to look for fracture, ligament injury, signs if arthritis and to find the cause is your problem and appropriate treatment.
