Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Neck Due To Degenerative Arthritis
Question: I HAVE DEGENERATIVE ARTHRITIS IN NECK. I HAVE HAD SEVERE PAIN IN MY TEETH. I WENT TO
DENTIST HE TOLD ME IT WAS NOT FROM THE TEETH AND TO CONTACT MY PAIN MANAGEMENT DR.
HE PUT INJECTIONS IN MY NECK LAST WEEK, BUT THE PAIN HAS NOT LEFT MY TEETH. THIS IS
DRIVING ME CRAZY. CAN THIS CAUSE PAIN IN MY TEETH.

Degenerative arthritis can cause a referred pain to the lower jaw or T-M joint or in the ear. It is not likely to cause a pain in the teeth. If the pain is localized to a single tooth then a tooth related pathology is likely. In case the pain is intermittent and is affecting the whole jaw then it can be due to spondylitis.
The following measures can help in reducing pain-
1. Use of cervical collar helps in immobilisation and brings relief.
2. Medical drugs like pain killers - acetaminophen/ibuprofen and muscle relaxants might be helpful.
3. Methylcobalamin supplements are also recommended for nerve compression symptoms.
4. Cervical isometric exercises are beneficial to maintain the strength of the neck muscles. Neck and upper back stretching exercises, as well as light aerobic activities, also are recommended under the guidance of a physical therapist.
5. Hot fomentation helps in relieving acute symptoms.
6. You can avoid using a pillow.
