Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Testicles After Smoking Marijuana

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Aug 2016
Question: So several months ago, I smoked some marijuana and immediately got this sharp, shooting pain in my testicles. I wasn't sure why, but it eventually went away after a few days. I smoked again a few days after I thought the pain was completely gone but sure enough, the pain came right back. The pain was excruciating while I was high. For the next week, my testicles were constantly sore, with a dull achey feeling. Eventually, I quit weed because of this pain. I went to a urologist but they didn't seem to find anything wrong. There weren't any visible varicoceles or testicular torison. Over the course of the next couple months, it seemed liked whenever i drank a lot alochol, the pain would come back. It didn't make sense, but I think it has something to do with the blood flow going to my testicles. Maybe I do have a varicocele? Also, the pain comes back when I work out, so i keep thinking it has something to do with the blood being pumped down there. Also, sometimes, seperate from the pain, I get this small tingling pinch down there too, like almost if something is moving around down there. I quit drugs and alochol by the way. I'm currently on antibiotics because we are trying to rule out epididymis or prostatitis. Anyone have any idea? thanks

Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to alcohol metabolites.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have carefully gone through your query and understand your concerns. I feel that I can interpret what is going on. Alcohol is metaboilzed to produce aldehydes which is a toxic substance. It also leads to build up of lactic acid in muscles and that causes the muscles to cry out in agony. Smaller muscles like the smooth muslces lining the tubules of the testicles are prone to such stress reactions and can be affected. It is likely that when you drink plenty of alcohol, these muscles get a build up of lactic acid and the resultant fatigue and exhausion gives you the pain. I do not think it to be due to a varicocele. In any case, a simple ultrasound of the scrotal sac will clarify if you have a varicocele, epididymitis or prostatitis. But I doubt if you have any of these and so I expect the ultrasonogram to be clean and normal. In such a case antibiotics would not help. The only think that would help is not to torture your body with alcohol intake. I would suggest you to try rehab.

Feel free to write back to me in case of further queries.

Thank you for your reply. I do have another question. How come the pain initially started with marijuana use? You said it was from the alcohol usage. I actually don't even drink that much. I drink from time to time. I mainly smoke weed (not anymore). It seems like all this pain started because I smoked. Drinking does give my testicles a dull ache but not that sharp, stabbing pain weed did, however last time I drank, I actually didn't have much pain surprisingly.

Brief Answer:
Marijuana can cause it.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Even though alcohol and marijuana are two separate items, marijuana is known to cause muscle spasms and twitching. The nature of the spasms would however be slightly different between marijuana and alcohol, exactly as you describe.
