Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Abdomen After Injury

default
Posted on Thu, 4 May 2017
Question: My bike was hanging in the garage, I got it down and when the tires bounced on the garage floor it flung the bike forward and the handle bar into my abdomen on my left side. It hurt for about 30 seconds where I had to bend over to catch my breath. I have a few scrapes but it's otherwise ok now. Should I be worried about internal damage? I tend to freak out easily and jump to the worst conclusions

Brief Answer:
It is better to be sure about it

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: female/38 - handle bar injury to the left side of abdomen as explained - few scrapes - severe pain for 30 seconds - otherwise ok now - polysporin locally - freaks out easily - wants to know whether to be worried about the internal injuries...

Noted the way the accident occurred, it is natural to be anxious after such an incidence. This is called ''blunt-injury-abdomen'.

Medical science depends upon the evidence hence it is better to do the following considering the history.

Please get a clinical evaluation and examination by your Doctor/at your nearby ER preferably by a General Surgeon.
Preliminary Ultrasonography and CT scan of the abdomen, if required, can help to rule out any internal injury along with tests of urine and blood.

Watch for the color of stool and other symptoms such as:
Pain in abdomen
Nausea, vomiting.
Bloating.
The color of urine.
Pain at the back and the skin color of the back must be observed as it indicates retroperitoneal problem wherein the symptoms may be least or absent.

All these points are not to make you anxious or afraid of, but to rule these out to have a quiet mind and be assured of nothing serious found out.

I hope this answer helps you; please feel free to ask for further queries if you feel that there is any gap of communication.

Awaiting your feedback of any symptoms and after the clinical evaluation and investigations.

Kind regards
