Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I am sorry to hear this problem has been going on over 2 weeks. There are a number of problems that can happen after an intramuscular injection. The most common is that there can be an area of swelling/induration, like your knot. Your body will gradually reabsorb this. Hot wet compresses to the area a few times a day (at least 3) and steroid topical cream can help this resolve.

However, as it's been 2 weeks, if there has been no improvement at all in the knot or the pain, then it would be good for you to go in to be seen by a doctor. While an area of swelling is most common, there can be other causes too, such as an abscess from infection at the site.

Regarding the pain, most likely it is from the swelling, but nerve injury can happen too. Nerve injury is really quite rare nowadays though, if injections are given in the "safe" for injection area of the buttocks.

What to do now: Depending on the degree of discomfort you are in, and whether there has been any improvement at all over the past 2 weeks, you can either try the hot compresses, or go now to be seen.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
