Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Thigh
Question: I was standing on a bench and fell off hitting my right thigh on the edge of the beach. This happened the first of December so close to 8 months ago. The skin was not broken but my leg swelled.....the swelling slowly went down in my leg but I still have a large lump about 10 inches across on the outside of my thigh. A ultrasound shows a hematoma...what are some of the treatment options?
Brief Answer:
Surgical drainage is necessary.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
A hematoma is a collection of blood. It appears that the injury had led to rupture of some blood vessels which led to a significant amount of bleeding inside, even though the skin outside was intact. In case of small hematomas, gradual resorption occurs and no surgical drainage is necessary. The process usually takes less than 2 weeks. However, since it has lasted 8 months already, I do not think the body would be able to manage it on its own. The only treatment option is surgical drainage. It is a minor procedure wherein the tissues would be nicked to let out the collected blood, nothing else.
