Question: One of friend age 55, Smoker & Drinker. From past 2 years he was facing the pain near jaw and throat.
His ECG , ECO & TMT was 100% normal, even his BP & Blood also normal.
Also he walks daily 5 kms and slim weight and healthy.
Later he went for angiograph, there he came to know that 4 blockage are there in veins, 100%, 60% & 40%.
On 02/11/2016, he went thru Bypass surgery.
My question is that why where the blockages was not found in ECG, ECO & TMT
Is these 3 tests are for namesake now ?

Brief Answer:
Functionality matters more. No intervention suggested.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Let me suggest how things work. An ECG shows the electrical rhythm of the heart. If there is a compromise is blood supply, the heart cannot function smoothly and it is the deviation from normal that is tracked by the ECG and Echocardiogram. A TMT is nothing but recording of ECG after subjecting the body to stress. In a nutshell, the above tests show how smooth the functioning of the heart is. In absence of any functional compromise I would not get bothered by the levels of blockages that an angiogram shows. An angiogram shows the network of blood vessels around the heart. Now the thing is that your home can be reached by a number of roads. If one road gets blocked and if there is another one open, the block hardly matters as you can circumvent it. The block would only matter if you find it hard to reach your home. Since functionally that is not the case here, I would not insist any intervention (like angioplasty or bypass surgery) till definite symptoms appear. In absence of symptoms all he needs to do is to walk regularly in the morning and maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. Nothing else needs to be done.

Brief Answer:
Explanation provided.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I have already tried to explain in very simple terms. The heart received blood supply from coronary arteries. Blocks in such arteries usually leads to compromise in blood circulation and can thereby lead to pain (angina). Effort angina occurs when the heart can perform normally with regular blood supply but cannot cope when the oxygen demand increases as in case of effortful scenarios as measured by TMT. Since the TMT is negative I would not get concerned unless there are significant symptoms bothering you even though blocks are present.

Morning walk leads to physiological conditioning of the heart. In other words, it seasons the heart to work more effectively and helps in attaining better stress tolerance. This is what will render your heart 'strong'. Since things are otherwise fine I insisted on no intervention. The rest is your choice.

Regards
