Suggest Treatment For Severe Rashes On The Body While On Z-pack

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Aug 2023
Question: I took a 5 day Z- pack for pneumonia. Last dose was 3 days ago. On the last day I started experiencing shortness of breath so I went to urgent care and the gave me prednisone for bronchial inflammation. The prednisone has helped my breathing but yesterday I developed and severe rash covering most of my body, especially my torso and joints. I've been told this is probably from the Z-pack and the prednisone should help. Not sure what I should do next. is this rash dangerous? It's looks terrible, but I don't feel too bad.

Brief Answer:
No, not dangerous

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The rash itself is not dangerous and does not mean that you are at risk of complications.

As you stated it may be related to the Z-pack, in some persons a rash can occur with viral infections (called viral exanthem) or respiratory tract infections.

The prednisone should help along with the antihistamine, Benadryl, that you mentioned.

In most persons, the rash resolves when the majority of other associated symptoms resolve or soon after (within 1 to 3 days).

Hope I have answered your query.
