Suggest Treatment For Severe Shortness Of Breath And Pain In The Left Breast
Question: I slipped on something while shopping Friday night and landed on the edge of the metal shopping shopping cart. The cart's edge caught me in the upper part of the rib cage, just underneath my left breast. the pain took my breath away for a moment, but I did not pass out. I iced the area when I got home. I do not think I broke any ribs. Did alternate ice and heat therapy (in my hot tub) all weekend. There is no visible bruising on the skin. Soreness has decreased each day. I go back to work today. Do you think I need to have an x-ray?

I read your concern carefully and I understand.
From what you describe :no breathing problems(shortness of breath ) , no invisible bruising on the skin , the pain is geting better,tells me that it's not something that need an X-ray .
You don't have any symptoms that shows for any broken rib or lung damage , it may be a small damage of the muscles or rib that don't need any further examinations ,will recove through the days by itself.
You should use only warm compresses to help recovery (dont use Ice anymore).
Also topical painkillers or if you can massage a little the area.
Just to know if your pain gets worse , you start to have shortness of breath,high temperature, cough (blood or yellow ) you should go to the hospital.
