Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat And Headache

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Feb 2016
Question: I'm about 4 weeks pregnant and am being woken up with a horrible sore throat and earache. I had dental work done on Monday, a temporary crown. Wasn't sure if that was causing the sore throat and earache or not. I am also still having throbbing/discomfort from my jaw to my temple. Being pregnant I understand there very little I can take. Any help, suggestions would be great! Thank you

Brief Answer:
Might be related to dental work, needs evaluation..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

Whether the tooth was treated with Root canal treatment before crown placement or not?

As per your complain in case if you have got a temporary crown done on Monday and have a throbbing from jaw to temple it seems to be due to dental treatment only. However it may or may not be the cause of sorethroat / ear ache. If it is not related to the dental problem, it is usually due to a throat infection.

In this circumstance, the first thing that you should do presently is to do warm saline gargles and take Tylenol in case of pain. Do not take any other medication without consulting your doctor..

I will suggest you get back to the dentist for reevaluation. Get evaluated and let him check you clinically for ruling out any problems with the tooth that has got a crown. As you are pregnant taking an x ray is also not indicated, so better take care of it.

If the dentist over rules dental cause, then you should visit a physician or an ENT expert. A course of antibiotic like Amoxicillin is entailed.
Warm saline gargles will be continued..
Avoiding chilled and spicy foods and drinking plenty of fluids will help..

Hopefully the symptoms will resolve in 4 to 5 days. Any further queries are welcome..

Hope this information helps.

Thanks and regards.
