Brief Answer:
Acute tonsillitis... Acute pharyngitis...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query. I will try my best to help you with this problem.

The history given by you indicates that you could be suffering from either tonsillitis or pharyngitis. Without an examination, it is difficult to arrive at a diagnosis.

Secondly, I do feel, plain penicillin may not be working for you, hence you would require a combination medicine.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water. Warm water increases the blood circulation and reduces the pain fast.
2. It would be better if you could get a prescription for an antibiotic with a combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid.
3. Try using povidone iodine throat spray or dilute povidone iodine throat gargles instead of salt water gargles.
4. Continue with advil.
5. Avoid chilled food and beverages, smoking and coffee.
6. If the symptoms do not get better within a couple of days consult your doctor for a complete evaluation and management.

Hope this answers your query, I'll be available for the follow-up queries.
